THE PROJECT
Born from the initiative of the CVC - Centro Velico Caprera Foundation in collaboration with One Ocean Foundation, M.A.R.E. (Marine Adventure for Research & Education) is a very special CITIZEN SCIENCE project aimed at monitoring the health of the Mediterranean Sea to promote knowledge and protection of the marine environment.
The 2022 journey was dedicated to studying the Tyrrhenian Sea, 2023 to the Adriatic Sea, while 2024 will be the turn of the North-West Mediterranean Sea.
Divulgation
Knowledge of the areas and testimony available to the greatest number of people
Scientific Study
Scientific analysis of the areas thanks to the presence of biologists on board
Influencing
Presence on board of testimonials and ambassadors who will convey the information to their followers
Institutional Sharing
Meetings with authorities and managers of marine areas and sharing of a common charter on best practices
OBJECTIVES
SCIENTIFIC OBJECTIVES
Collection of samples of zooplankton organisms, natural bioindicators of environmental pollution, to monitor the presence and distribution of various marine contaminants.
Monitoring marine biodiversity through the collection and analysis of environmental DNA samples, which are traces of DNA left by marine organisms.
Spreading knowledge and awareness about important environmental issues, promoting responsible behaviors.
"THE SEA IS OUR HOME"
NAVIGATION
Navigation is remotely supported with meteorological assistance and route planning, thanks to the expertise of "skippervirtuale", led by Centro Velico Caprera instructor Silvia Ferri.
